Ideas & Inspiration:

Create The Perfect Guest Room

The holiday season is almost upon us – time to kick back and relax with family and friends. Here are some top tips for getting your home ready for visitors and overnight guests before they arrive, to make for a relaxing and comfortable stay:

Clear clutter - Keep your guest room clear of clutter, or if space is tight, ensure there is ample storage space in the guest room to store your personal items when friends arrive. By keeping the landing spots clear, your guests have plenty of space to leave their shoes, clothes, bags and jewellery. Storage ottomans that double as seating and a place to hide your mess are a great choice for the guest room. Clothes racks also mean your guest can easily access their own clothes without disturbing items stored in your wardrobe.

Divide and Conquer – If you don’t have the luxury of a spare room for guests, then invest in a pretty screen that can give your visitors some privacy in your lounge-room or family room.

Sleep tight – The cornerstone of any guest’s experience is the bed because a good night’s sleep is invaluable. Choose a stylish bed that suits the theme of your room and a comfortable, supportive mattress. If space is tight, opt for a sofa bed or futon in the living-room that can be used as a sofa by day and restful bed by night.

Lighten up – An easy-to-reach bedside lamp and side table is a must when creating your guest room. You don’t want your guest going ‘bump’ in the night stumbling through the dark to find the light switch. By providing a table lamp next to the bed, your guest can also enjoy some quiet reading time before bed.

Accessorise - Cushions and rugs are a fun way to add a splash of colour to your guest room, and are certain to add that homely feel.

Creature comforts – A glass of water on the side table and an invitation to help themselves to snacks in the kitchen are all small things you can do as a host to ensure a comfortable stay for your guests. Fresh cut flowers will not only brighten a room but are a thoughtful touch to make your guests feel welcome.

Happy Holidays!
